Day 6: Why is it so hard to find fresh salmon?

Well, the day started out fine, but the rain was just a couple hours away. We spent the day reading and washing. We washed clothes and read books in the Harbor View club house. I did a quick video of the club house when we arrived the day before(click here to watch) During this time I also took my bike to a shop nearby for some repairs. Beyond the sketchy roads to the fish place susan mentioned, I also had some major issues with my bike. $85 later my bike was back to normal. After the laundry and showers, Peyton and I went to the Jamestown brew pub to let susan put Pierce down for a nap (he was being unruly).

After that, I was restless and decided that if two cities and at least six people told me to go to Bortell's I better try it out.
I attempted the ride on the bike and it was brutal. It was only 6.6 miles according to the gps, but man it was tough. When I explained to the bike shop owner what we tried the day before he said "yeah, the 2 mile climb is tough". Coming from a Wisconsin flat lander it was horrible. Yesterday we stopped right before the climb, and after that it is more up and down hills. The trip routed me cross substaitially sized power company. It was nuts to cross the power lines, they crackled as I went by. I thought I was going to be electrocuted. It even said "no stoping or standing" on the road which freaked me out.

When I arrived at Bortell's they were out, yes out of fresh salmon! I purchased some trout and smoked salmon and headed back. The last mile on my return trip I got rained on pretty hard. When the rain started I thought it was refreshing and then it got heavier and thought how crazy and unrewarding this bike trip was. One thing that really surprised me as I was riding was the amount of property for sale along lake. One of the best places to witness a sun set and 2/3 of the 6 miles was for sale. Granted, the power company was not prime realestate, but we are talking lake MI.

When I arrived back at the marina we enjoyed a nice dinner, a great bottle of wine, and watched the S.S. Badger come in and head back out. Some lady came up to strike up conversation with Susan about our dogs and said the Lake Express ferry is broke down and has increased ferry traffic here. This seemed like a likely occurrence because the boat was awfly full.
